Murrayfield Wanderers are delighted to announce that Mark Bennett, the Edinburgh, Scotland and GB 7s international, has joined the coaching team.
Mark says “the guys have obvious potential and I am really excited by the opportunity of focussing that enthusiasm, and hopefully surprising the opposition by what we can achieve. It gives me a great opportunity to learn about how to bring the best out of players.”
Bennett started his career playing for Cumnock RFC before moving to Ayr RFC and helping them to win the Scottish Premiership in 2011. He made his senior debut for Glasgow in 2011 before moving to French side ASM Clermont Auvergne after strong performances for Scotland U20s. He returned to Glasgow in 2012 joining Edinburgh this season on a 3 year contract. Mark is currently injured and hoping to return in the New Year.
Mark has represented Scotland from Under 18 to Under 20, playing in 3 Junior World Cups. Mark has played for Scotland at 7s and was part of the Great Britain Olympic silver medal winning 7s squad in Rio last summer.
Head Coach Bruce Aitchison is delighted to have Mark as part of the coaching team, “Mark has made a fantastic impact already. The players have enjoyed working with him and the coaches have been given a great lift with his enthusiasm and love of the game. Mark is a proper rugby man who is a product of the club game and is a real asset to us. He’s already skinned me for a fiver with the backs scoring a peach off first phase ball!”
