John Douglas unfortuately passed away recently. His funeral is scheduled as stated above; it is also going to be screened over the internet.
In the meantime, we can at least remember his many life achievements:
In 1979, he owned a Grand National winner!! Rubsitic was the first Scottish trained horse to win the Grand National, since the event began in 1839. (The photo shows his trophy).
When asked recently for his highlights in life, he answered “Friendships formed through rugby”! In addition to playing for us, he was capped 12 times for Scotland and played in the 1962 British Lions. He also helped the club to several signficant sevens successes.
He also managed to fit in becoming the 1961 East of Scotland Amateur Heavyweight boxing champion!
