Jim Reilly

Jim Reilly

arnie yule12 Apr 2020 - 08:07

Stalwart, family man, and friend who will be greatly missed.

The club is distraught to report the passing of Jim Reilly on Saturday 11 April, in hospital.

Jim took up rugby with Hyndland Secondary School in Glasgow. He had a short spell at Glasgow Accies before moving to Edinburgh where he played for Murrayfield RFC and subsequently Murrayfield Wanderers. After playing, he took on various roles in the club; in fact, there was no task that Jimmy would not take on! He had spells as Bar Convenor, House manager and clubhouse maintenance during our stay at Murrayfield. When we had to move to Roseburn, Jimmy was key in overcoming all the challenges of setting up a new bar and clubrooms, plus also creating a habitable home at the Armoury.

He coached at Murrayfield Wanderers, and then also at Caledonian Thebans, where he has similarly proved himself to be indispensable.

We have all found that there was no task he wouldn't take on, and always done in a cheery manner.

Unfortunately, in this Corona period, we cannot attend Jim's funeral, but we will have some celebration of Jim later on, as agreed with his family.

His passing is a sad loss to Karen, Thomas and Samantha as well as his wider family, and to the rugby world.

Rest in Peace, Big Man.
